NY Fights FAIR to Expand State Consumer Protection Law

  • New York AG Letitia James announced her support for passage of the Fostering Affordability and Integrity through Reasonable Business Practices (FAIR) Business Practices Act.
  • The Act would expand the state’s consumer protection laws to prohibit unfair and abusive practices, extend the protections of the law to businesses as well as consumers, make conduct without public impact actionable, and cover out-of-state conduct, among other things.
  • According to the AG’s office, the Act would bring New York’s consumer protections in line with other states’ and federal consumer protection laws.
